Gods Law: The Ten Commandments

A: Have you ever really thought about the application, implication of the laws of God? Let us LOOK at each one and break down the direct and implied aspects of the overall laws as stated in Exodus 20. Remember that these laws were written in “stone” by the finger of God and given to Moses atop the mountain of God, called Mt.Sinai and also Mt. Horeb. This above statement begs the question, “Did these laws existpriorto their being given at Sinai, to be again recalled from memory, of those who came out of Egypt during the Exodus? If they were given before to Gods people, prior to the giving of the tables of stone to Moses, how were they given? Remember at the time of the giving of the “Law on Tables of Stone”, there was NO Old Testament yet written, it was in the process of being written by Moses as commanded by God. So how did they have a prior knowledge of Gods laws before the Exodus brought them to Mt. Sinai? The answer has to be: either by personal revelation from God or handed down by “mouth” with transcribed family history, which was at the time carved into personal staffs as records of the families.

B: Now we need to consider these laws from another prospective altogether. So let’s look at each one. Keep in mind this is just a human analysis for thought provocation.

Number 1 commandment and the “most important one” on the list, that calls to obedience of them all. The Bible says that “God Spake (spoke) all these words. Keep in mind that the italicized words within scripture were added for clarity, I will use the verses without the italicized addition.

Exo 20: 1 And God spake all these words, saying,

Exo 20: 2 I the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. (This is Me, this is what I have done for you.)

Exo 20: 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

In this first of the ten commandments, God identifies Himself by the “ Ipersonal pronoun identifying who it is, that is about to make known His will for mankind, regarding His law, then states just whom the “ I ” actually is. THE LORD THY GOD your deliverer from bondage. The old King James English words of “Thy, Thou and Thee” are both singular and plural at the same time, depending on their applicable use. They can be used to address a single person, or they can be used to address a group, nation, community, etc. With this more clear now, lets see who God is speaking to in this first command. He says who He is and what He has done for those whom He is addressing. Then He makes the direct command of NOT having any other God, to be held before Him, to be worshiped other than Himself. He Himself says: “Beside Me there is no God.”

Isa 44: 6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. So we have it: explicitly understood that the first commandment is commanding us, to have only the true God, and to worship Him as the same, the one and only true God, without exception! Now that’s the command given to mankind in reference to the “TRUE GOD”. Now let’s use our God given talents to analyze this command: QUESTION: Do you think that the “angels of God”, already know this truth, and have known it from eternity past? ANSWER: Yes. So the command, the FIRST commandment as it was transcribed by Gods own finger, is directly applied to theangels & the human being”. WHY? Because the angels already know who God is, so the command was given explicitly to mankind, so we like the angels, would know who He really is. And since we too “have free will”, but in a fallen state, God wants us to make the right choice and worship the true God (Himself). The angels also choose to make that choice, because they know who He is, and choose out of “love and adoration” for Him, and personally pledge their allegiance to Him, because they love Him. GOD does NOT compel obedience from any of His creation. ALL of His creation has “free will” to choose for themselves. This first commandment is a “universal decree” to ALL inhabited worlds of His creation. It applies to ALL, to both angels and humans, and STANDS FOREVER, throughout Eternity. It is as “eternal” as God Himself! Now let’s go on to the “second commandment” and look closely at it: It encompasses three verses from Exodus 20.

Exo 20: 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness that in heaven above, or that in the earth beneath, or that in the water under the earth:

Exo 20: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth of them that hate me;

Exo 20: 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. The words: graven image, heaven above, earth beneath, the water, the earth, bow down thyself to them, serve them, the iniquity, hate, mercy, love me, keep my commandments. ALL implies this command is directly addressing human beings, those who have the capacity to worship idols, the fallen ones in Gods creation. QUESTION: Will this command be eternal? ANSWER: NO! WHY? Because in the earth made “new”, there will be NO desire or inclination to do so, as ALL humanity redeemed will be translated into Gods kingdom. That what once “was corruptwill put on incorruption, and “trueincorruption is NOT capable of worshipping any other God, as all things will be new. Nor will “hate, iniquity, graven images, or false worship”, exist in Gods kingdom, ever again! So the second command is temporal in it’s application, and applies to thehuman condition in the fallen state of being.” It is a directional command for the fallen world to heed, while in the fallen state of being in order to bring us out of that state of being into the marvelous light of Gods truth.

Isa 66: 22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.

Isa 66: 23 And it shall come to pass, from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

Rev 21: 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

Nah 1: 9 What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time. So it’s going to be impossible for those redeemed to ever commit such atrocities against God or His dwelling place, which at that time will be right here on the Earth made new. Their very “natureswill be changed, they will love God, and they will NOT desire to commit such acts. So what need would there be for God to make this command an “eternal decree”, if such apostasy as it warns of, will NO longer be possible? (It too is a temporal command to be applied to a temporal world, it would serve absolutely NO purpose in the “eternal world” to come.) Are our ministers preaching the truth? Or are they preaching their truth? Let’s go on to number three in sequence: The third commandment.

Exo 20: 7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. This verse in the Decalogue is one of the, and I say again One of the most misunderstood verses in the commandments. Most people believe that “taking the Lords name in vain”, is using His name in curse words, (cussing, swearing, etc.), nothing is further from the real truth. This verse is declaring that, if you claim to be a servant of God, then your lifes’ activities had better reflect Gods character, otherwise you have taken His name, character in vain as you say one thing, and do something completely different, or contrary to His will as it pertains to holiness. A kings subjects within his realm, are expected to represent the king in all their dealings with others. So likewise the subjects of the heavenly KING, are expected to reflect His will and His character when dealing with others. If this is NOT done in practice, then you have taken the Kings name and have borne it in vain before others. This command has nothing to do with cursing or swearing, or filthy talk. Since anyone who claims to belong to God, and does NOT do the works of God is hypocrisy and guilty before God. Thus God will hold you to your SIN if you do not allow Him to change you. The only impossible thing, that exist with God, is His inability to change someone who does NOT want to be changed. God will NOT force you! Since the ABOVE truth of ALL things being made new, this command is likewise a temporal command for a temporal world prior to it’s recreation. There will be NO need for such a command in practice in the Earth made New, as ALL will bear the Name and the character of their risen Lord and Redeemer. So this command would be redundant for an eternal command as the above verse specifies in Nahum, SIN-Affiction will NOT rise a second time. Summary of the first three commands of the Decalogue: I place the summary here as there is coming a “major change" to this exegesis in the next commandment under consideration. We have looked in detail at the first three and have found an important truth. One so far is “eternal” and always has been. The FIRST commandment as it states the great I AM who I AM! The SECOND commandment is temporal in application, but heaven inspired for direction for a fallen creation as long as this temporal earth exist. Likewise the THIRD commandment is also temporal, pertaining to a creation that is capable of SIN, and capable of taking the Lords name and dragging it through the “mud” so to speak. This will NOT take place, ever in the earth made new. So the third commandment must also be applied temporally to a creation capable of such sin. SO OF THE FIRST THREE COMMANDS WE SEE ONE ETERNAL UNCHANGEABLE. WE SEE TWO OTHERS THAT ARE TEMPORAL IN APPLICATION TO THIS DISPENSATION.

Now we are in for a surprisea changea new DIVINE DIRECTIVE/DECREE. NOT before mentioned anywhere in scripture, or from the prophets, as to the TIME when it was given at the END of CREATION week, there were NOT any PROPHETS at that time. And it will stand for ALL ETERNITY! I take pleasure in presenting to you the FORTH COMMANDMENT! It contains so much more than being the forth command in the Decalogue. It actually identifies the CREATOR HIMSELF, rather than just being a command about worship, it’s a command of identification that reverts back to the very FIRST commandment. The great I AM in the first commandment is also the CREATOR of the FOURTH commandment, except here is identified three attributes of our Creator. The Creator, the Creation, and the SEAL of creation. It is also the longest in detail of any of the commandments. It is also placed specifically close to the center of the entire TEN. You will understand more as you read further.

NOW for the command itself, and we will closely look at it’s application, as it has a DUAL temporal & eternal existence, that was newly specified, at a new creation of God, but will LAST forever. The ONLY commandment that contains a NEW creation to effect both Heaven and Earth for ALL ETERNITY. NO other commandment has ANY new creation detailed in it’s application other than the FOURTH. This is a SPECIAL COMMAND directly from Gods own heart, to and for humanity and angels, along with ALL His inhabited created WORLDS.

NOW THE COMMANDMENT

Exo 20: 8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Exo 20: 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

Exo 20: 10 But the seventh day the sabbath of the LORD thy God: thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that within thy gates:

Exo 20: 11 For six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Let’s first look at the four verses that contain this command. The very first word of the command is the word REMEMBER! WHY? Because this word implies that the command existed prior to the bondage of Israel in Egypt, and that their ancestors did practice it, in the worship service of the Israelites. Because of that bondage of Egypt and it’s harshness, the children of Israel had all but forgotten the holiness of their day of worship, and the very day itself, as they were NOT allowed under Pharaohs’ orders to worship at all, unless of course it was his false gods. As their generations lived and died, the sanctity of their worship day was eventually lost sight of. After so many generations it was all but forgotten or not observed at all. Because of this when God led them by the hand of Moses to Sinai, when He re-established His requirements for their worship, He used the word REMEMBER, to bring again their remembrance of old, the worship of their ancestors back into the worship of newly redeemed Israel from bondage in Egypt. Which by the way is a type of the redemption of the CROSS. REMEMBER WHAT? Answer: The Sabbath Day or seventh day, the last day of the week. WHY? Because it is a “Holy Dayit is the Lords Sabbath rest. Did He rest because He was tired? NO! He rested from His week of creation, He ceased to create, it was finished and there was NO need to continue as it was complete, so He rested or rested from creating anything further. Rest/arrest/cease.

Isa 58: 13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking words: Six days God gave to us, to get our work done, just as He Himself completed His work of creation in six days, so we are to complete our week in six days just as He had done. BUT the next day the seventh day is the Sabbath a holy day unto God, it is both made for man and God to commune together. It is BOTH a temporal and an eternal day of rest from labor. Mark 2: 27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: (In other words man cannot dictate a change in the Sabbath, nor can he alter it in any way. It is Gods Holy Day made for man to keep Holy.)Mark 2: 28 Therefore the Son of man (Himself) is Lord also of the sabbath. (He calls the game plan on that day, NOT man.) The Sabbath is a special day in creation, it was set apart from the rest of the week. It’s the only day that God named, He called it Sabbath. Then He continued to bless this day above ALL the other days of the creation week, then after blessing it, He bestowed His own holiness upon that special day, He hallowed the day as His own. It was made for mans eternal good, but it belongs to God, the redeemed and the other WORLDS unfallen eternally. The Sabbath of the fourth commandment is the SEAL of God as IT, the forth commandment denotes His person, what He is RULER OF, and what His seal is. To break it down! He is GOD, His domain is Heaven and Earth, His official SEAL of creation is the Sabbath Day. An earthly monarch such as a “king”, has a “seal”or “signet ringbearing the kings seal. When a kingdom degree is declared, and put in written form, it is sealed with “wax” and the kings “seal” is impressed into the wax, verifying it authenticity, that it is indeed the “kings decree. It always bares the name/title of the king, his realm, and his seal. Therefore it was verified.
