Revelation a "Brief" Study

Revelation Chapters 4,5,7,8,9
Chapter 4: Describes the Throne Room & Him that sat in Heaven.

Eleven (11) times the word “Throne” is used in these verses, there can be no doubt as to the heavenly scene John is witnessing. Thrones are indicative of the King, in this case the King of the Universe. The fact that a “door was opened” indicates that John must look inside, this is the Heavenly Sanctuary John is looking into here. Here He finds our Great High Priest “Jesus” on the Throne in the Sanctuary in Heaven. This corresponds in “type” with the “Mercy Seat” in the earthly Tabernacle where the “Shekinah” dwelt behind the curtain/vail in the Most Holy Place.

Rev 4:1 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; [a Loud Herald] which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. [He gave John a vision of the furture.]

Rev 4:2 And immediately I was in the spirit: [in Vision] and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. [This was Jesus Himself, see vs.11 below as it identifies this Deity as the Creator who we know is Jesus]]
Rev 4:3 And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.
Rev 4:4 And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold. [Here in this verse is an allusion to the four and twenty courses of priest that officiated in the Tabernacle services. Just as the priest represented the people through offering sacrifice for them, so here the four and twenty elders represent the redeemed. Elders means here: An item on a list or in a sequence. Cause to be in an appropriate place, state, or relation.]
Rev 4:5 And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. [NOT that God is made up of “seven” different spirits, but that He is complete in Spirit. Seven is the number in the Bible that denotes “Perfection”  God is PERFECT in Spirit”]

The above verse draws upon the description found in Exodus. Sinai was shaken at the Lords presence.
Exo 19:18 And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.
Exo 19:19 And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.

Rev 4:6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.

Ezekiel had a like manner of vision as recorded here: Eze 1:10 As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.

Rev 4:7 And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.

These are a description of the Seraphim that are constantly around the Throne, who are servants of God, who are at His every command.
Eze 1:13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.
Eze 1:14  And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.

Heb 1:7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.

Rev 4:8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

Isa 6:2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
Isa 6:3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

John was drawing upon “Old Testament” terminology to describe what he was seeing in vision. For people to throw out the Old Testament, simply because Jesus came in the flesh, is to throw away any hope for them to understand the Scriptures.

Rev 4:9 And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,
Rev 4:10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,

Rev 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. [This verse encompasses the TRINITY as a whole, God is worshipped.]

Revelation Chapter 5

Rev 5:1 And I saw in the right hand of him [the Father] that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. [Trinity statement here!]
Rev 5:2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice,[Asking Intensely]  Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? [the question was to bring GLORY to God, the angel knew who was worthy.]
Rev 5:3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. [NO ONE, this too was to give GLORY to God]
Rev 5:4 And I [John] wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. [There was ONLY ONE who could, and that by divine right brought about by the sacrifice of Jesus, for Him alone]
Rev 5:5 And one of the (24) elders saith unto me, [John] Weep not: [Don’t cry] behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed [through His selfless sacrifice] to open the book, [the book of the seven seals here] and to loose the seven seals thereof.
[To loose them was to reveal them]

Rev 5:6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst [middle] of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb [Jesus] as it had been slain, [Which He was, for You and I] having seven horns and seven eyes, [the oversight of ALL Nations] which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
Rev 5:7 And he [Jesus] came and took the book out of the right hand of him [the Father] that sat upon the throne. [Jesus takes the scroll of destiny from the Father to reveal it’s contents.]
Rev 5:8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, [Jesus] having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
Rev 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; [He’s the redeemer of the World!]
Rev 5:10 And hast made us [past tense] unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. [Where? Not in heaven BUT on the Earth]

The above verse eludes to both Isaiah and Malachi note the following verses:

Isa 66:22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
Isa 66:23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.
Mal 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
Mal 4:3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.

Rev 5:11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, [100,000,000+] and thousands of thousands;
Rev 5:12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
Rev 5:13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. [John here is seeing in vision the redeemed in the motif of “Not yet but Already”, he sees' them as though they were already on the Sea of Glass]
Rev 5:14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.

Revelation chapter 7

Rev 7:1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, [Holding back Calamity] that the wind [Strife] should not blow [or be Released yet] on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

These angels have a commission to keep in check world affairs, until it’s the time that they should release their restraint.

Rev 7:2 And I saw another angel [other than the first four] ascending from the east, [the East is ALWAYS the direction God moves from, it was also the direction one would enter the Tabernacle, from the East gate. The tribe of Judah camped on the East side just in front of the Tabernacle entrance.] having the seal of the living God: [God has a SEAL, SATAN has a MARK] and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, [They were given to “hurt” only because they are the angels that are holding back mankind’s destructive efforts, once released man will cause the hurt]
Rev 7:3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, [Don’t let go just now, we have to do something first] till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

The “SEAL of God”goes the same place that the “MARK of the Beast” is placed in reference to the forehead. The forehead is symbolic of the “frontal lobe of the brain”, where the “seat of the will” is found, where decisions are made within the brain. Before Jesus comes everyone will have either the Seal of God or the Mark of the Beast, by choice in their mind. The Sheep will be separated from the Goats.]

Rev 7:4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand [144,000 this is a symbolic number which is 12 x 12, or denotes complete spiritual Israel, NOT literal Israel] of all the tribes of the children of Israel. [Or the SEED of Abrahams descendants.]
Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Rev 7:5 Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand.
Rev 7:6 Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand.
Rev 7:7 Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand.
Rev 7:8 Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.

One reason we know this listing is symbolic of Spiritual Israel, and NOT literal Israel is the fact that TWO of the original literal tribes of Israel are “missing here.” The Tribes of “Dan and Ephraim are TWO who were not counted here.

Rev 7:9 After this I beheld, [John saw in vision]  and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; [Here again we see the Already but NOT yet motif, John sees them in vision as already being there, but we know that this vision was given around the year 92 A.D.]

Rev 7:10 And [the 144,000 or redeemed Spiritual Israel] cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. [This is a consummation moment, after the Second coming when ALL is completed]
Rev 7:11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,
