The Laodicean Church, the 7th and last church period of history. The seventh church along the old postal route.
Jesus has some strong council for this time period as it is the LAST one in the history of the world, just before He comes at the Second Advent. These churches were addressed in the order of their founding.
Rev 3:14 And unto the angel [Leader] of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
Rev 3:15 I know thy works, [Jesus sees the last day churches as riding the fence] that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. [Jesus want a decision from these churches, either for Him or Against Him, there is NO more church time periods left. It’s time to REPENT, quickly]
Rev 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. [God will NOT accept this kind of worship, even though the church goes through the motions, it is NOT a true church, it’s “playing church.”]
Rev 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, [Brag about what a growing fellowship, and vibrant worship] and increased with goods, [They have all the truth they need, they close their ears to real truth, because they think they have what it takes] and have need of nothing; and knowest not [SELF-DECIEVED] that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
Rev 3:18 I counsel [Command] thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, [Scripture Truth, “As it is Written”] that thou mayest be rich; [With Truth] and white raiment, [Christ Righteousness] that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness [Sinful Condition] do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, [Open Your Eyes] that thou mayest see.
Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: [Jesus loves His church, He does NOT want anyone to loose Eternal Life] be zealous therefore, and repent. [A CLARION CALL to REPENT NOW! Before it’s TOO LATE.]
Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: [This is URGENT] if any man hear my voice, and open the door, [To Be Willing to Learn] I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. [We will have a personal, experiential relationship between us]
Rev 3:21 To him that overcometh [We have some personal overcoming to do] will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
Rev 3:22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
These admonitions cover seven church time periods, from the 1st century A.D. down to the end of time, just before probation closes for humanity. They are also depicted through the four horseman. SEE BELOW:
Folks today don’t have a good understanding of the “seven seals” recorded in Revelation 6. Below are clearly outlined six of the seven have already been opened as revealed to John.
Rev 6:1 And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.
Rev 6:2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: [A Pure Apostolic Church: EPHESUS] and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer. [The Gospel spread through Jesus followers during this time period.]
Rev 6:3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.
Rev 6:4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword. [Paganism of the church had begun, and the results were death SMYRNA & PERGAMOS]
Rev 6:5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. [The church THYATIRA & SARDIS & PHILADELPHIA was going through a trying time during this period. Paganism was being mixed with Christianity and the church was becoming more corrupt. Persecution was in it’s height during this time period which began around 538 A.D. and extended to 1798 A.D.]
Rev 6:6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. [There was a famine in the land for the Word of God, it was being suppressed by idolatry and error. The persecution of the Roman Catholic churches “Inquisition” through the Jesuits was well under way.]
Rev 6:7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.
Rev 6:8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: [Laodicea, This time period began around 1850 A.D. and will run until Jesus comes. It coincides with the Laodicean church period, the last church period in history] and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. [Because of Church Corruption] And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth. [End time persecution in which it is just beginning now]
Rev 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: [During the previous 1260 years of papal persecution]
Rev 6:10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
Rev 6:11 And white robes were given [Assurance] unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled. [In the FINAL Persecution which is upon us RIGHT NOW]
Rev 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
Rev 6:13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
These LAST TWO verses refer to the greatest Earthquake ever recorded since Jesus acended, there will be one more even greater at the end. But these verses refer to the Great Lisbon earthquake of 1755. The Dark Day of May 1780, and the Falling of the Stars in 1833, just as the prophecy states.
The 1755 Lisbon earthquake, also known as the Great Lisbon earthquake, occurred in the Kingdom of Portugal on Saturday, 1 November, the holiday of All Saints' Day, at around 09:40 local time.[1] In combination with subsequent fires and a tsunami (maremoto in Portuguese), the earthquake almost totally destroyed Lisbon and adjoining areas. Seismologists today estimate the Lisbon earthquake had a magnitude in the range 8.5–9.0[2][3] on the moment magnitude scale, with its epicentre in the Atlantic Ocean about 200 km (120 mi) west-southwest of Cape St. Vincent. Estimates place the death toll in Lisbon alone between 10,000 and 100,000 people,[4] making it one of the deadliest earthquakes in history.
Dark Day of May 19th 1780
Since communications technology of the day was primitive, most people found the darkness to be baffling and inexplicable. Many applied religious interpretations to the event.[8] In Connecticut, a member of the Governor's council (renamed Connecticut State Senate in 1818), Abraham Davenport, became most famous for his response to his colleagues' fears that it was the Day of Judgment:
"I am against adjournment. The day of judgment is either approaching, or it is not. If it is not, there is no cause for an adjournment; if it is, I choose to be found doing my duty. I wish therefore that candles may be brought."[9]
Davenport's courage was commemorated in the poem "Abraham Davenport" by John Greenleaf Whittier.
Today, some Christians, especially those among Seventh-day Adventists citing extracts of Biblically sequential events, "... the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from the sky..." (Matthew 24:29 (WEB) are signs preceding the return of Christ) and interpretations of the event as cited by Ellen G. White, believe that the Dark Day was a fulfillment of Biblical and end-times prophecy.[10][11] Also see Revelation 6:12–13 "... and there was a great earthquake. The sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became as blood. The stars of the sky fell to the earth, like a fig tree dropping its unripe figs when it is shaken by a great wind." One prominent Seventh-Day Adventist, Arthur S. Maxwell, even mentions this event in his The Bible Story series (Vol. 10). Some Progressive Adventist scholars do not interpret this as a sign that Jesus will soon return.[12] Traditional Historic and Conservative Adventists, who hold Ellen White's writings in higher regard, still consider this date as one of the fulfillments of biblical prophecy.[13]
Stars Falling of 1833
Because of the storm of 1833 and the recent developments in scientific thought of the time (see for example the identification of Halley's Comet) the Leonids have had a major effect on the development of the scientific study of meteors which had previously been thought to be atmospheric phenomena. The meteor storm of 1833 was of truly superlative strength. One estimate is over one hundred thousand meteors an hour,[8] but another, done as the storm abated, estimated in excess of 240,000 meteors during the nine hours of the storm[1] over the entire region of North America east of the Rocky Mountains.
It was marked by the Native Americans,[9][10] abolitionists like Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass and slave-owners[11][12] and others.[13] Near Independence, Missouri, in Clay County, a refugee Mormon community watched the meteor shower on the banks of the Missouri River after having been driven from their homes by local settlers.[14] The founder and first leader of Mormonism, Joseph Smith, had predicted "stars falling from Heaven",[15] and afterwards noted in his journal that this event was a literal fulfillment of the word of God and a sure sign that the coming of Christ is close at hand.[16]
Denison Olmsted explained the event most accurately. After spending the last weeks of 1833 collecting information, he presented his findings in January 1834 to the American Journal of Science and Arts, published in January–April 1834,[17] and January 1836.[18] He noted the shower was of short duration and was not seen in Europe, and that the meteors radiated from a point in the constellation of Leo and he speculated the meteors had originated from a cloud of particles in space.
