Study: The Great Controversy (GC).
My annotations in “blue”
Three Components: Origin, Outworking, and Obsolescence of Evil
Purpose: To show that there is a cataclysmic cosmic conflict between God and Satan and that Planet Earth is its theater. According to the Bible, evil is a direct result of rebellion against God’s law.
The earth is the theater of the Great Controversy, and the issue of worship is at the center.
The “Great Controversy is between Michael/Jesus and the arch “rebel angel” Lucifer/turned Satan.
Rebellion is at the “center” of “SIN”, and “self” is the center of “Rebellion.”
Lucifer was the respected leader of the angelic choir, he was created with the ability as some theologians believe, to sing all “four” major tones simultaneously.
Eze 28:13 Thou [Satan] hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes [Vocal Chords] was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
Luk 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Rev 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. [The Controversy moved from heaven to earth and has continued since that time.]
Rev 12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; [Lucifer turned Satan] and the dragon fought and his angels, [One THIRD of the host of Heaven]
Rev 12:8 And prevailed not; [they LOST the battle in Heaven, but the WAR continued] neither was their place found any more in heaven.
Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. [The context of “cast” is to : Throw forcefully, to banish, to cast out. Satan left Michael NO other choice, than to forcefully remove him from his place.]
Eze 28:16 By the multitude of thy merchandise [the evil propaganda that his wickedness sowed among the inhabitants of the angels.] they have filled the midst of thee [his heart] with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
The above verse if read closely, should be the “only” verse one needs to SQUASH the belief of an “eternally burning hell fire”, the Devil himself is slated for “DESTRUCTION.” He will be the very “last” one to perish in the “Lake of Fire”, prepared for him and his fallen angels specifically.
Mat 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: [This lake of fire was NOT prepared for human beings, it was prepared for the destruction of evil. Human beings will be cast into it, simply because they chose “evil” instead of “good.”]
The phrase “Lake of Fire” is found in only four verses, and they are ALL in the Revelation as follows.
Rev_19:20 And the beast [Apostate Church of Rome] was taken, and with him the false prophet [Apostate Protestant churches] that wrought miracles before him, with which he [the Man of Sin] deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, [Sunday Worship] and them that worshipped his image. [the holy father of Rome] These both [Fallen Churches] were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. [This is the “hell” event, hell is not a place but an “event”]
Rev_20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
Rev_20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Rev_20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Now for some clarity: If one reads the above verses as “literal only”, everything recorded within the verse, one will be I “error.” There are within the verses above “both” literal and metaphorical applications. For instance: in verse 20 above beast, false prophet, miracles, mark of the beast, worshipped, image, alive, lake of fire, burning, brimstone, ARE all literal applications or events.
Verse 10: devil, deceived, cast, lake of fire, brimstone, beast, false prophet, tormented day and night, ARE ALL literal as long as they LAST. The ending phraseology “ for ever and ever” is NOT to be taken as “Eternally”, throughout ALL time unending. To do so does NOT do justice to either the verse of Gods Justice against the wicked who perish there. The word “perish” means to: Pass from physical life and lose all bodily attributes and functions necessary to sustain life.
Verse 14: If “death and hell” is cast or “done away with”, the word “hell” in this context means the “grave”, death and the grave are destroyed along with the wicked.
Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Verse 15: “Whosever” applies to those who accept Jesus’ provision of Salvation, as well as those who “reject” that provision?
If the “wicked” are to burn for ever and ever, then the question arises, “Where is Hell, where is this Lake of Fire?” Most people believe that it’s somewhere near the center of the earth, but they forget that the earth is going to be made “New”, the old earth that was cursed with “sin” will be destroyed by fire as promised. So do people actually believe that God will make ALL things new only to allow ALL things sinful to continue for ALL eternity, somewhere in the center of the earth or in the cosmos.
2Pe 3:6 Whereby the world that then was, [before the FLOOD] being overflowed with water, perished: [meaning “passed away”]
2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
The Earth is going to be “destroyed completely” by FIRE, and this is the “Lake of Fire” spoken of that will also “destroy Satan and the wicked” and this then will be done “forever.” That’s the context of verse Rev. 20:10 above. There are many verses in scripture that tell us that this controversy will come to an “end”, and the wicked will come to an end as well. They will not burn forever as is being taught by the “false prophet”, i.e. apostate Protestant churches. The scripture says that the wicked shall not be, they will be consumed “away” in smoke.
Psa 37:10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.
Psa 37:20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.
Once the controversy has closed, after the total destruction of both Satan, his angels and the wicked in the “lake of fire”, the earth will be made new, and the redeemed will dwell here on earth with God Himself. This means that Gods dwelling place will move from where it’s located now to this New Earth.
Isa 66:22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
At this time the controversy will be “over”, and Jesus will then TURN everything BACK over to the Father as has always been from eternity past, and we shall ALL go into eternity future in total harmony with God.
1Co 15:24 Then cometh the end, [the end of the controversy] when he [Jesus] shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he [Jesus] shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
1Co 15:25 For he [Jesus] must reign, till he [Jesus] hath put all enemies under his feet.
1Co 15:26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. [Death cannot be destroyed if there is “life” being tortured in a forever hell fire. This doctrine of “eternal hell fire” is of the Devil himself!]
1Co 15:27 For he [the FATHER] hath put all things under his [Jesus’] feet. But when he [Jesus] saith [to the Father] all things are put under him, [the Father] it is manifest that he [Jesus] is excepted, which did put all things under him. [Under the Father as he has won the Controversy]
1Co 15:28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, [the FATHER] then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him [God the Father] that put all things under him, [Jesus] that God may be all in all.
You see what has happened here, the Father gave Jesus complete CONTROL of ALL things during this UNIVERSAL COSMIC CONFLICT, and when it’s over Jesus will turn the “reigns”, back over to the Father as it was before. God the Father has been in observation, as “Jesus the Son” has fought the SPIRITUAL WAR, and when it is ALL over, Jesus takes His RIGHTFUL PLACE once again, at the RIGHT HAND of the Father, and Gabriel takes Lucifer’s’ place that was vacant thoughout this war.
The CONTROVERSY is OVER, the WICKED are DESTROYED, SATAN is DESTROYED, the EARTH is made NEW, and the REDEEMED will go in and out of the NEW JERUSALEM that will be here on the EARTH MADE NEW.
Mal 4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, [NOT here yet, BUT coming] that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: [NOT burning people in the flame, BUT stubble that can be burned UP.] and the day [always means the Second Coming of Jesus] that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
Mal 4:2 But unto you that fear my name [the Redeemed] shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
Mal 4:3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.
ETERNITY BEGINS “HALLELUJAH”
Figure 1. There are seven consecutive steps in Philippians 2:5-8 that Jesus took to put Him at the same level as humanity. Conversely, Satan took the opposite route and exalted himself, a deliberate action that is in clear contradiction with Scripture. In Isaiah 14:15, Satan hits “rock bottom.” “Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the pit.”
In Ezekiel Satan is DESTROYED! Eze 28:17 Thine heart [his mind] was lifted up because of thy beauty, [selfishness] thou hast corrupted thy wisdom [ability to reason] by reason of thy brightness: [because of your position in heaven] I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
Eze 28:18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries [ability to worship God] by the multitude of thine iniquities, [personal SIN] by the iniquity of thy traffick; [your sinful propaganda] therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, [Sponteaneous Combustion] it shall devour thee, [burn him up] and I will bring thee to ashes [complete DESTRUCTION] upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
Eze 28:19 All they that know thee [those who sided with you] among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, [or HORROR] and never shalt thou be any more. [Completely GONE FOREVER]
So for you who believe in an "etrnally burning hell", take NOTE, the Bible does NOT teach such hellish doctrine. Gos is Love and He will not allow those for whom Jesus died, who rejected His provision for "salvation", to burn through out eternal eons of time. He even destroys the instigator of ALL sin once and for ALL, just as the wicked who are cast into the "lake of fire" will be eternally destroyed from Gods presence, so likewise will He destroy SATAN.
